⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Captain Hera Syndulla
Age: Roughly 26-27
Canon: Star Wars: Rebels
Canon Point: Season 3 Episode 9: Visions and Voices

Background: Rebel pilot, freedom fighter and military leader.

Personality:

Hera is a woman forged by war- a rebel against an unjust empire with ideals and a will as strong as the steel hull of her precious ship. Being raised in the time of the Clone Wars under a freedom fighter named Cham Syndulla, she is no stranger to what kind of will it takes to break control of an invading force. The death of her mother by the Empire's hands has done nothing but strengthen her resolve. As she sees it, the Rebellion is not just built on hope, but on action. It can start small, but it's a seed that can grow with enough time and effort. And effort is all she can give to the Rebellion. She works tirelessly for their efforts, even postponing personal happiness like romance in order to serve the Rebellion in its full capacity.

As a Rebel officer, Hera is quite intelligent and capable, able to think of both infiltration strategies as well as uncover and dissect some of the plans that the Empire has made against her. This has included outsmarting Imperial spies, such as Gail Trayvis, and even smugglers like Lando Calrissian. She also uses her intelligence- and her good looks- to help give her the element of surprise. Whether it be flirting with the guards of a chemical plant ( Forgot her pass the first day, can you believe it? ) or playing up the "dancing girl" stereotypes of her people, she can manage to wheedle her way out of trouble whenever it is absolutely necessary.

However, Hera has one major flaw as an officer. Because she thinks too tactically, Hera tends to not do well with improvising on strategies or finding another way around obstacles. This inflexibility is perhaps best demonstrated by her handling of the falsified reports on Cynda. After discovering that the reports showing that blowing up the moon of Gorse, Cynda, in order to harvest a rare mineral were falsified, Hera thought it would be defeat due to the fact that all of the most obvious routes of informing the Empire (and thus putting an end to Count Vidian's goals permanently) were closed to them. It was only Kanan's quick thinking that managed to get the report to the right people in time, and stop the moon of Cynda from being destroyed. This, perhaps, is why she works best in a team with him. Her intelligence and his ability to improvise make them a force to be reckoned with, and hopefully in time his flexibility will rub off on her.

Hera believes first and foremost that she should serve not just the goals that touch her personally, such as a free Ryloth, but the greater good. This, perhaps, makes her the true heart of her crew despite her seemingly intimidating role as a Captain in the rebellion. It was her belief in serving the good of all that helped her convince Kanan to stop running from his abilities as a Jedi and join the rebellion, and it is the same heart within her that helped convince her crew to take on another member- and for Kanan, an apprentice- Ezra Bridger. She's become something of a mother to Ezra and Sabine, being one that they can go to for comfort and learning. Even if she is hard on them at times, such as making Ezra stay behind on missions in order to learn responsibility, she genuinely cares for her crew like they're her family.

That isn't to say that her desire to be a rebel and her desire to keep her family close aren't at odds with each other. Hera considers her duty first to the Rebellion, and then to herself. This, unfortunately, means that she ends up sacrificing her own personal wants and desires quite often. Whether it be destroying her childhood home in order to prevent the capture of the leader of the Twi'leki rebels or deciding to abandon the love of her life to the Empire's mercy in order not to jeopardize her cell's connection to the Rebellion, Hera sacrifices for the greater good. In more recent months, she's starting to admit she wants both- even telling Kanan that whatever they faced, she wanted to do it together. All the same, she understands that they both have duties that will take them separate ways, and she's ready to sacrifice her personal happiness for whatever fate the Force has in store for them both.

Abilities: Mundane Piloting Skills

Alignment: I believe Hera would fit best with Peromei. As a rebel leader, she is constantly relying on her own hopes- hope that she will make a difference in the galaxy, hope that she can help her people, hope that this rebellion is part of something bigger. At the same time, she has moments of despair- such as when two of her crewmates must attend to duties that she cannot assist with.
